also here are military and veterans groups, economic development, education, health care, you name it. it's all part of the national day of service for the obama inaugural. something is going on in all 50 states. this big tent opens at 9:30 to the public. you can come down and see all of these exhibits. there's plenty of room for everybody here at the mall at 12th street. we talked to a couple of the people inside about what they hope to do today. >> anyone can volunteer if you're ages 10 and up. we have everything from an e-mail pen pal program to getting involved with our friendship program. >> people are here for the national day of service. you'd like people to come and sign up. >> absolutely. we need volunteers. we are run by volunteers. we have over 1,000 volunteers. we're always looking for more volunteers. that's why we're out here. >> reporter: again, it's a national day of service. it won't be any good unless you participate. i'm tom sherwood live on the national mall. back to you. >> all right, tom. we're glad you canceled your other plans to be with us. >> we feel very luc
